Our son has been battling anxiety and addiction issues for a decade. The last 7 months have been an absolute nightmare with rehab stays, recovery houses and time spent in a homeless shelter in the Badlands. Just last May, he graduated with his second bachelors degree and was promoted to a supervisory position at his job. Then it all came crashing down.
We feel so fortunate to have discovered the Penn Foundation Recovery Center at this time. My son actually thanked us for suggesting Penn Foundation and he made a real connection with his wonderful counselor Tim.
Not only is our son getting compassionate, professional care — so are we. What a concept - to involve the addict’s family! The Family Education sessions on Sunday mornings are absolutely worthwhile. My husband and I have learned a few things the hard way - but now we have Alan, (the family liason) and what a blessing. Alan really helps families learn about the disease aspect, mental disorders that some addicts experience(including our son), relapse and most importantly the fine line between support and enablement. Aside from the education aspect Alan is so kind and compassionate, even when he is being brutally honest. I really have no words to express our gratitude -thank you doesn’t seem to cover it.
Our son has now completed his third week inpatient stay and is moving on to a halfway house. We never really understood what a halfway house was, but it seems to be a much better option for our son than a recovery house was, since there is more structure.
We are all moving on with a renewed sense of hope, thanks to all of the Penn Foundation Recovery Center staff and Alan.
